The AD is a different type of tourist accommodation, conceived to provide guests with a resort rather than a building. It consists of a central reception and a number of units located in one or more municipalities, and the people living there are part of it.
The AD has been created to make tourists experience the local everyday life and be in touch with the inhabitants. Existing structures have been restored so this kind of accomodation has become a solution to the environmental management. The Albergo Diffuso is a way to join us, stay in our homes and to be part of our communities. It's a nice way to meet. The Albergo Diffuso of Tolmezzo started in 2012 and consists of 12 residences mostly located in the villages surrounding the town. Every unit has been created by the restoring of ancient buildings, so you will also enjoy the atmosphere of the past in these places. You can find the hotel reception in the centre of Tolmezzo, in a large building between Piazza 20 Settembre and Piazza Centa next to the Cathedral. By car
From Trieste and from the Ronchi Airport:
Take the motorway A4 direction Palmanova-Venice; in Palmanova, take the A23 to Tarvisio up to the exit Carnia-Tolmezzo.
From Milan - Venice:
Take the A4 motorway to Udine-Trieste; in Palmanova, take the A23 to Tarvisio up to the exit Carnia-Tolmezzo.
From Cadore:
It's possible to reach Carnia from Cadore through the pass of Mauria (A27 exit Pian di Vedoia), or through Sappada. From Austria:
Take the A23 motorway from Tarvisio to Udine then exit to Tolmezzo-Carnia.
From Mauthen: go south-east to Plöckenpass Str.B110 through the pass leading to Italy then go on the SS52 Bis to Tolmezzo.
By train:
The nearest railway station is Carnia, on the railway line Rome-Vienna, here you can get a coach to Tolmezzo (first daparture at about 7·30, last departure at about 19·20). You can also take a coach from Udine up to Tolmezzo (there's a departure every hour and the journey takes about 45 minutes).
You can get to any resort in Carnia from Tolmezzo in 30-40. You can get to Arta Terme and Julium Carnicum in 5 minutes, and to the Monte Zoncolan in 15 minutes. All the valleys of Carnia join in Tolmezzo. This is why the town is called the capital of Carnia and it has become its administarative centre.
With its shops, cinema, theater, hospital, sports centers, restaurants, and clubs, Tolmezzo, not far from the sweet beauty of the Alto Friuli mountains, can offer you all the facilities of a town.
